In order of importance:

Get the most out of my job by sharpening my skills in decision making, managing tough clients, negotiation, critical thinking on how events and happenings would impact the economy
Buy a house and rent it out and be financially independent as soon as possible
Practise piano hard so I’ll be the best as I could be
Improve my muay thai albeit slowly
Take care of my skin and complexion
Watch my weight and diet so I will remain toned and my skin will not sag if I were to lose weight
Work in farms all over the world

The Missing Puzzle of PUB’s Waters Masterplan

Nice but plain is what I would describe the ABC (Active Beautiful Clean) Waters Programme by the PUB (Public Utilities Board). PUB’s initiative to give a facelift and revitalise Singapore waterbodies is no doubt commendable. But I can’t help feeling that it is missing… A SOUL.

Seems that most social initiatives and solutions on this tiny island are mass produced for an instant result. The public housing here is the most prevalent examples. I remember going up the wrong HDB (public apartment) block when I first came to Singapore for a homestay holiday in my elementary school days. (Though my non-existant sense of direction is partly to blame).

Shopping centres here is another example of cookie-cutter social solutions. Nearly all malls, be it in the heart of the city or suburban areas, house the same brands – Giordano, G2000, Soo Kee Jewellery, Charles & Keith, Guardian, Watsons, Kopitiam, Golden Village, McDonald’s.

So can we blame PUB if their water masterplan blueprint looks like this…

Government agencies should partner each other in creating social solutions that are holistic and encapsulate the soul of its people. Things are improving but progress is slow and would remain slow if the vision to breathe souls into social solutions is not inculcated in every single individual involved in forming policies up there.

Although the scene beyond the waterbodies partly contributes to the lukewarm feel of the ABC masterplan, I hope PUB will create a stronger sense of identity in each of its water planning zones, in terms of:

1) Street furnitures

2) Lighting
